As the only institution of its kind established under the approval of The Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad (BOCOG), the Olympic Arts Research Center, CAFA was set up by China Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) on Jan. 6, 2004 for art and design research, creation and consulting with the mission to create an excellent artistic and humanistic environment for the Beijing Olympic Games. It is also the only Olympic arts research and development center in China. The president of the Centre is Wang Min.

The service slogan of the Center is “Design for Beijing Olympic”. We have actively participated in the preparation work of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. We have been devoted to the research and development of image & look system of the Olympic Games, promoted the publicity of the Olympic concept and image, and undertaken the design, management and quality control work of various image systems for BOCOG. Besides holding regular seminars, exhibitions and promotional activities on the Olympics and Humanistic Arts and the Olympic Image & Look, we have also integrated the Olympic arts and design project into the daily teaching and research of CAFA to actively explore various models and possibilities for the integration of the arts teaching and education with the Beijing Olympics. The Center has accomplished various Olympic design projects, including the design of the Medals of the Beijing Olympic & Paralympic Games, the Pictograms of the Beijing Olympic & Paralympic Games, the Color System of the Beijing Olympic Games, the Core Graphic of the Beijing Olympic Games, the KOP System of the Image & Look of the Beijing Olympic Games, the Core Graphic of the Olympic Torch Relay, the Image & Look System of the Olympic & Paralympic Torch Relay, the Ticket of the Beijing Olympic & Paralympic Games, the Accreditation Card of the Beijing Olympic Games, the Way-finding System of the Beijing Olympic Games, and the Official Posters of the Beijing Olympic & Paralympic Games. The Center shall continue to carry out Olympics-related academic researches after the Beijing Olympic Games and undertake the planning, development, research and design work for large domestic and international events. At present, the Center is undertaking the image development and design work for the Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade.
